100 point World Sailing event in Southern Hemisphere

Published Tue 11 Jul 2017

A message from Ken Hurling - President Australian Laser Class Association (ALCA) and International Laser Class Association (ILCA) Oceania

Greetings all Laser Sailors Coaches and Supporters,

In my last letter I announced the change in 'ILCA' regions and the effect on us in the transition from Asia Pacific to Oceania plus the two combined events this December 27th through to the 4th of January.

The Oceania and Australian Laser Championships.

Working with Eric and the 'ILCA' team I am please to announce that the Oceania Championships will be a 100 point World Sailing event.

The significance of this is a major win for all Oceania Laser sailors as this maybe the only World Sailing ranked event in the Southern Hemisphere this coming summer. This is a great opportunity to gain world ranking points for all our Oceania Laser sailors closer to home.

Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron 'RQYS' with its first class facilities is the event host. It is located in Manly, Brisbane and is close to international and domestic airports, bus and railways.

Notice of Race 'NOR' is available via 'RQYS' website, the Queensland Laser Association website 'QLA' and the Australian Laser Class Association 'ALCA' website Lasers Down Under.

Accommodation as always is at a premium, camping is available at the Squadron, onsite caravans can be booked via 'RQYS', hotel, motel accommodation is available nearby. I must stress, to avoid disappointment, to book early.

The 'ALCA' has assembled a great team of race officers, judges and umpires to make this event a total success and enjoyable for all. For those who are coming early training will be allowed on the course area.

We are expecting this Championship to be a 200 plus Laser event. Charter boats will be available from the local Laser Dealer Sail27, and PSA the Oceania Laser builder.

This year the 'QLA' is hosting the Australian Masters at Mooloolaba, 2 hours north of Brisbane, in mid February, this is to ease congestion during the Christmas and New Year period.

All Oceania Masters are invited to this Championship.
