The Oceania Windsurfer LT Season Heats Up in Tahiti and Fiji
Published Thu 14 May 2026
The 2026 edition of the Oceania Windsurfer LT Circuit is now firmly in motion, with two back-to-back Oceania Championship-level events bringing the Pacific's windsurfing community together across two of the region's most iconic venues. With Tahiti and Fiji confirmed on the calendar since 2025, the circuit is delivering exactly what OSAF set out to build: High-quality, accessible, and connected windsurfing competition right across Oceania.
A Pilot Year for a Long-Term Vision
2026 is a pilot year for the Oceania Windsurfer LT Circuit. With Tahiti and Fiji as our two anchor events, OSAF is using this season to test the format, learn from sailors, race officers and organisers on the ground, and refine the circuit model in close partnership with the Windsurfer Class associations and our Member National Associations (MNAs).
Every aspect (event spacing, scoring, travel logistics, charter support, and the rewards) will be reviewed. The feedback gathered this year, together with formal recommendations from the International Windsurfer Class Association, the Windsurfer Class Association of Australia and from our federations themselves, will shape a stronger, better-aligned 2027 circuit built on what actually works in our region.
"This is a regional circuit project with real logistical challenges, uneven performance levels and market access limitations. Securing international class support and aligning all the stakeholders is the work of this pilot year." — Tamatoa Audouin, Vice-President, OSAF
A Circuit Built for the Pacific
The Windsurfer LT class is uniquely suited to our region: Fast, fun, equipment-friendly and forgiving across a wide range of conditions. OSAF has been steadily shaping this regional circuit that rewards consistent performance and the camaraderie that defines Pacific sailing.
The momentum is here: Beyond the two confirmed 2026 pilot events, the Ligue Calédonienne de Voile has signalled strong interest in adding une étape to the circuit, conversations with Yachting New Zealand are underway, and other MNAs are following with interest. Looking ahead to 2027, OSAF is targeting a minimum of three OSAF-sanctioned Windsurfer LT Oceania Championship events, with the grand finale staged during the Pacific Games in Tahiti, where the overall circuit winner will be officially recognised and awarded by OSAF.
"It's good to hear about OSAF's actions on the circuit. The international class is connecting OSAF into the wider Windsurfer community to support what's being built in Oceania." — Piotr Oleksiak, General Secretary, International Windsurfing Association
"There's a long track record of Pacific connection in this class — Solomon sailors heading to Australian nationals, New Caledonians joining our national events, the Fiji event coming together. A regional circuit is the natural next step, and we're keen to help where we can." — Greg Johns, President, Windsurfer Class Association of Australia

2026 Pilot: Two Events, Two Weeks Apart
🇵🇫 Tahiti Oceania Championship (26–29 May 2026)
Hosted by the Yacht Club de Tahiti / Fédération Tahitienne de Voile
Tahiti opens the 2026 circuit with a multi-class championship. Windsurfer LT sailors race alongside Optimist and ILCA fleets for a vibrant club atmosphere on the water.
- Three racing zones — Matavai Bay, ʻĀrue Lagoon and Taʻaone Bay — selected daily based on conditions.
- First warning signal ashore at 09:30 daily, with up to 5 races per day across four days.
- Trapezoidal course under the Racing Rules of Sailing 2025–2028 and Appendix B (Windsurfing Fleet Racing Rules).
- Both Oceania Champion 2026 and Polynesia Champion 2026 titles awarded.
- Entries close 25 May 2026 (race office, Yacht Club de Tahiti, yctahiti@gmail.com).
🇫🇯 Fiji Windsurfer Oceania Championships (6–9 June 2026)
Hosted by the Fiji Yachting Association at Musket Cove Resort & Marina, Malolo Island
Just one week after Tahiti, the circuit moves to Fiji for a Windsurfer LT-specific event in the warm tradewinds of the Mamanuca Islands. The Fiji event is a celebrated fixture known for its excellent organisation, competitive racing, and the unmistakable Bula spirit.
Highlights from the Notice of Race:
- Three disciplines: Course Racing, Slalom and a Marathon — testing the full skillset of competitors.
- Target program: minimum 8 Course Races, maximum 12, with the Marathon kicking off the event on Day 1.
- Divisions by weight: Light/Medium (under 78 kg) and Medium/Heavy (78 kg and over), plus a Junior division for sailors under 16.
- Charter fleet: 25 brand-new charter boards available on a first-come, first-served basis at FJ$800 for the event (refundable bond required).
- Travel support: Fiji Airways discount code SPORTS26 and Musket Cove accommodation code WINDSURF26.
- Entries close 1 June 2026.
For sailors planning to compete in both, the timing works beautifully: Fly into Tahiti for the opener, then connect to Nadi for the Fiji event with just enough breathing room between regattas.
A Growing Circuit: New Caledonia Joins the Conversation
The Ligue Calédonienne de Voile is actively working with OSAF on adding a New Caledonian leg, with the Association Calédonienne de Planche à Voile (ACPV Nouméa) as the host club.
"The ACPV is interested in hosting an Oceania Championship — it would be a great step for the class in New Caledonia." — Aurélien Le Métayer, Conseiller Technique Fédéral, Ligue Calédonienne de Voile
"The project is moving forward on our side. Our local competitors are ready to do some lobbying themselves to bring the best sailors in the region over to Nouméa." — Benoit Demaret, President, ACPV Nouméa
Why Both Events Matter
Together, Tahiti and Fiji offer something no single regatta can, that is, a genuine circuit experience. Sailors gain back-to-back international race time, exposure to two distinct racing formats: A multi-class lagoon championship in Tahiti, then a class-specific course/slalom/marathon program in Fiji, and the chance to build relationships across our Pacific sailing community.
Calling All MNAs: Add Your Oceania Champs to the Circuit
OSAF is actively inviting MNAs to add their own Windsurfer LT Oceania-level event to the circuit. Whether you are looking to host an inaugural regatta or elevate an existing one to Oceania Championship status, OSAF can help you plug in.
As part of the pilot, discussions are also underway on a circuit-wide rewards mechanism designed to hook sailors into the next Oceania event of the year and build season-long momentum. The framework is a work in progress: We are looking for the right balance between flexibility for organisers and sailors, and the robustness needed for a fair, sanctioned circuit. The detailed format is being shaped now in collaboration with the Windsurfer classes and participating MNAs, and your federation's input is welcome.

If your MNA is interested in hosting a stage, or in discussing how the rewards mechanism could support your sailors travelling to other circuit events, Viki is the first point of contact.
